over as he had been. His eyes cleared and looked more like Byron’s. “She has to get over that.

Before. She can be with. Us.”

“You don’t have that kind of time. It’s never been this bad before. Has it?” And Byron was fast approaching a time when it was known to get worse. He had less than a week, and it was already this bad? Not good.

“No. I’ll. Live.” He took a deep breath that seemed to turn into a growl. He was warring with his fire, going back and forth, trying to push the fire within him down.

Only Byron would now be reassuring him. That was so typical. Only Byron wouldn’t have taken advantage of Mira and released to ease his fire due to some code about her past. Callum didn’t need Byron reassuring him. He needed Byron to live and not implode from his fire buildup. Damn the man’s moral code. “You sit down. Collect yourself. Calm yourself. I’ll fix dinner.” His cock had deflated with Byron’s state of mind anyway. To think he’d been fantasizing about having a quickie before they had to dragon ride tonight. That wasn’t going to happen now. Might not be happening ever again until this was resolved. Callum would never forgive himself if he made this worse for his lover.

For once Byron didn’t argue with him, which was a testament to how bad he must be feeling. Byron always fixed dinner and never let Callum order him around. “Fix the deer. And the vegetables. I bet they were from Mira’s garden. She’ll like that.” He sat down and started fanning himself. His speech was much better, and his skin wasn’t so red. His breathing had calmed. He seemed to be cooling down. Maybe this had scared him. Good, because it had sure scared Callum. It had driven home the point that they couldn’t wait much longer.

Callum ignited a fire in the fire pit and commenced cooking the meal that Byron told him to.

After a few minutes, Byron’s coloring had gone back to normal and sweat had stopped coming from every pore. He continued fanning and didn’t get up to push his way into helping with the meal.

“You better?” Callum tried to make the question nonchalant as though he didn’t care about the answer. But truth was, he didn’t want to lose this man, and events tonight had showed him he was close to it. He’d just found Byron. How unfair was it they had to find another lover or Byron would implode? It wasn’t fair at all.
